France France has never considered the possibility of deploying naval troops in the Sea of Hormuz, Emmanuel Macron today gave the assurance.
From the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, where the French president is in Kenya, Emmanuel Macron sent the message that his country “never considered at any time the possibility of deploying naval military forces in the Straits of Hormuz”. “But we remain ready,” he said.
He reiterated that he opposed “any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz from wherever it comes“, whether from the US or the Iranian side. At the same time, Emmanuel Macron also sent a message to Iran saying that he “denies any toll (from the Strait of Hormuz) wherever it comes from” in order to “ensure freedom of navigation”.
Note that France announced last week that the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier was sailing through the Suez Canal to be ready in case this mission is carried out in the future.
Referring to the joint planning with Britain, Emmanuel Macron said: “We have built an ad hoc mission, which we are co-chairing with the British and which has brought together 50 countries and international organisations to make it possible, in coordination with Iran and with the approval of all the countries in the region and the United States, to ensure, as soon as conditions allow us, the resumption of maritime trade, particularly for the transport of fertilisers, food and hydrocarbons.”
