The president of Ukraine warns of continuing hostilities and says Kiev is preparing for new attacks by Russia.
New concerns about the course of the war in Ukraine are raised by statements by Volodymyr Zelensky, who made clear that Russia is continuing military operations with no signs of escalation. The Ukrainian president stressed that fighting on the front line remains fierce, while Kiev is in heightened readiness against the risk of a new Russian attack. At the same time, the Ukrainian leadership insists that the main goal remains peace, despite the ongoing military tension and uncertainty about Moscow’s next moves.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that “Russia has no intention of ending the war that has lasted over four years” with his country and that Kiev is preparing for new attacks.
The warning
“Today there was no quiet on the front line. The hostilities continued,” Zelensky said in his evening video address.
“Russia has no intention of ending this war. And we, unfortunately, are preparing for new attacks.
But peace must come. That is exactly our goal,” he said.
