The immediate discontinuation of video reproduced in recent hours by some media, following the tragic incident with the two 17-year-old girls, called for the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government SpokesmanPavlos Marinakis.
In statement the government spokesman described the transmission of this material as “deeply problematic and dangerous”,noting that experts have already expressed serious objections to its reproduction.
At the same time, he spoke of “absolute disrespect”towards the families of the two girls, stressing that the continued showing of the video not only affects their relatives, but also society as a whole.
“It is imperative that the controversial video be immediately withdrawn and its reproduction stopped, as a minimum sign of respect to these families and to society as a whole,” he said.
Mr. Marinakis also noted that he considers the intervention of both the National Broadcasting Council and the Judiciary, as self-evident in order, he said, “to do the appropriate thing” regarding the management and dissemination of this audiovisual material.
Closing his statement, the government spokesman expressed his condolences to the family of the minor who lost her life, while wishing a speedy recovery to the second girl who is still hospitalized and fighting for her life.
