Unrest occurred at the Athens University of Athens yesterday during the student elections.
DAP-NDFK denounces in the most categorical way the serious unrest that occurred at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the Faculty of Economics.
Specifically, as the student faction notes, a group of members of the Panspoudasistiki, the student faction of the KKE, stormed the counting area of the Faculty of Economics, causing tension and attempting to disrupt the democratic process. During the incidents, assaults and violence were committed against DAP-NDFK cadres and students, resulting in injuries and cadres being taken to hospital.
In a statement, the DAP-NDFK noted:
“Such practices of violence, intimidation and bullying have no place in Greek Universities and directly insult the democratic functioning of student associations. Free expression and the unhindered conduct of electoral processes are non-negotiable principles for any democratic university.
We call on all student forces and every democratic citizen to condemn unequivocally such actions and to stand against any form of political violence in the schools.
DAP-NDFK will continue to defend with responsibility and determination democracy, the safety of students and the smooth functioning of university institutions against any attempt to intimidate, intensify and undermine the democratic process.”
