Paul Marinakis blames PASOK for communication tricks and avoiding the substance, asking for clear explanations for the leasing of the property Androulakis to the Public.

The government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, escalating the confrontation with PASOK over the case of the Androulakis family’s property that houses public services.

Responding to accusations of “mud“, Marinakis countered that it is PASOK that is attempting to “throw the ball in the courtyard” to avoid answering the substance of the questions raised by the government and Adonis Georgiades.

Marinakis called on Nikos Androulakis to stop lying and to take a specific position on the financial parameters of the lease.

In detail, Marinakis’ response:

“It has become a favourite tactic of PASOK not to give answers on the substance, but to respond by throwing mud indiscriminately and using insulting characterizations.

So today, he did not answer any of the crucial questions we asked.

Neither on whether there is an ethical question about the 1.2 million euros of state money that Mr Androulakis has received from renting the building, nor on whether the PASOK president will take any legal action against the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades, because he raised the above ethical and not legal question.

That is, he did not answer whether he would criminalize political criticism, -in fact, he says that I “ask” that Adonis Georgiades not be sued. On the contrary. I pointed out their hypocrisy, just as I pointed out that we have no authority to raise questions of legality, as in government we are neither judges nor prosecutors and we will not become like the opposition parties that have turned Parliament into a vast court of law.

Also, PASOK did not answer whether it would take legal action against the media that published the article, at a time when the opposition party systematically pretends to be the “protectors” of press freedom and the rule of law.

I am, however, sincerely pleased that today PASOK recognises the landmark reform of the Print and Electronic Press Registers, which set rules of transparency in the media sector. And the opposition may choose to remain silent on what we asked, but I, without hiding, come to answer:

– A website to register in the Electronic Press Registry must register a minimum number of employees. This does not mean that it cannot employ more employees than it has declared. The fact that a medium is certified by the Registry means that it meets certain minimum transparency requirements. The Registers do not control the content that each medium publishes. This, like much else, is assessed by readers. If someone considers that he or she is offended by a publication of a medium, he or she has recourse to justice and not to the service of the General Secretariat for Communication and Information that maintains the Registers.

– About a year ago, as the responsible Deputy Minister, I proposed and the Greek Parliament passed Law 5212/2025 on the Enhancement of Publicity and Transparency in the Print and Electronic Press, which for the first time established a provision that is a breakthrough: Signature journalism. This provision refers to the obligation of media registered in the Registers of the General Secretariat of Journalism to also carry autographed articles.

In no way was the use of pseudonyms prohibited. This would not be the case even in authoritarian regimes where various undocumented reports, which are sometimes relied on by PASOK, place us lower than them in their “indexes”.

Nevertheless, the current legal regime protects someone who considers himself or herself to be offended by a publication even if it is unsigned or signed with a pseudonym.

– They should be aware in the opposition that it is not the responsibility of the Minister of State in charge of the Press, nor of the department under his authority, whether or not any journalist is a member of any demographic association and that this is something that only the association itself can certify.

Instead of the PASOK and its president lying and “throwing the ball into the stands,” let them answer the “snuffbox” questions, even if it is so belated.”
