And suddenly the opposition has discovered the problem of security and controls in universities…
The attacks by hooded figures at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at university institutions in Athens on the eve of the student elections have brought the issue of security and especially controls back to the forefront, highlighting at the same time the hypocrisy of the opposition parties.
The same parties that fought university police and interference in institutions, even denouncing the cameras that need to be installed, appeared to denounce the government and blame it for not already moving forward with the necessary measures.
Yes, that happened too. Those offering political umbrellas to baháchalas and faculty members involved in various forms of opposition began to wag their fingers after incidents of extreme violence were documented and reported by the media.
The same people who consider the existence of cameras a violation of asylum and freedom of expression for students have gone so far as to talk about the… competence of the government, clearly showing that they are not rushing ahead of anything.
And that’s because they are the ones who will react when the measures promoted in cooperation with the rectorate authorities are implemented and will talk about the violation of asylum and the personal data of students.
Only when the knot has come to a head and the issue of student safety and the smooth functioning of university institutions is beyond the reach of oppositional crowns and political contests.
The silent majority chooses safety. The students do too, since the vocal minority does not represent those who wish to complete their course of study without missing semesters of mobilization.
Violence on university campuses is not tolerated and, importantly, this is the direction in which the majority of both faculty and students are moving.
