The country’s central role as a pillar of security and economic progress was cited by Niki Kerameos during her speech at the Conference of New Democracy.
The Minister of Labour stressed that “Greece is a factor of stability“, noting at the same time that our country has managed to play a leading role at European level, ensuring that the economic dividend of growth is returned directly to society.
During her statement, the minister showed realism, admitting that this path has not been free of failures. “Obviously not everything has been done perfectly. But the overall assessment is very positive,” she said.
“We managed to bring unemployment down to its lowest point in 18 years,” Kerameos stressed, saying that the 600,000 people who found jobs was not a number but there are families behind it.
“Collective agreements returned under the ND government and already more than 400,000 workers are seeing significant increases. The digital job card protects workers. Service for our fellow citizens with disabilities is constantly improving,” he added.
“The minimum wage has increased from 650 to 920 euros and the average has already exceeded 1500 euros a year ahead of target. Social security contributions have been reduced, pensions are increasing and the personal differential has been abolished. In 2019 the average pension award time was 500 days, today it is below 42 days. What we want is with every action we take to get closer to the target, more disposable income for all, boosting employment, he stressed.
“Policy based on realism and not populism is a difficult one. It is the only one that ensures results. The real power is not promising everyone everything but looking citizens in the eye and saying that what we said we have done. With the support of fellow MPs and all the staff. Together we disprove those who thought we would not succeed, together we change Greece in practice, we continue for another battle against populism that is trying to come back. One more battle for a Greece of certainty and perspective. This battle will be profitable, victorious,” the Labour Minister added.
