By decision of the Chairman of the SYRIZA-PC, Socrates Famellos, Paulos Polakis is excluded from the party’s parliamentary group.

The deletion comes after new public posts by the MP, which have provoked strong reactions within the SYRIZA-PS.

In a statement, Socrates Famellos characterizes the Polakis post as “offensive and aggressive”, making it clear that it “cannot be tolerated“, while categorically rejecting suggestions of “hidden agenda”and serving interests.

“The astrong implication that I have a hidden agenda and serve interests and decisions that have not been made in the collective bodies is absolutely unfounded and unacceptable,” he says in his response.

The SYRIZA president also attempts to respond to Polakis’ accusations of “voicelessness” and “lack of initiative”, citing a series of political and parliamentary actions of the last few days: from visits to the People’s Hospital and Lesvos on the foot-and-mouth issue, to contacts with trade unions and interventions in Parliament.

Of particular importance is his reference to the last meeting of the Central Committee, where, as he notes, it was decided by “an overwhelming majority” that the party’s strategy is the “reconstitution and unity of the progressive space” and not “lonely marches and enclosure“.

Socrates Famellos leaves clear hints that different political plans and personal strategies are behind Polakis’s stance, stressing: “I will not allow personal strategies and rumours to overshadow the seriousness and consistency of the party and its collective decisions.”

In conclusion, he sends a message with multiple recipients within the party: “I will not allow anyone to insult my political morality and dignity.”

Socrates Famellos’ statement in detail:

The offensive and aggressive post of Pavlos Polakis cannot be tolerated.

The obscene implication that I have a hidden agenda and serve interests and decisions that have not been taken in the collective bodies is absolutely untenable and unacceptable.

Pavlos Polakis speaks of “voicelessness” and “lack of initiative” in the week that I and my comrades stood by the workers at the People’s Hospital, we made a visit to Lesvos for foot-and-mouth disease, we met with the Panhellenic Trade Union Federation of Nursing Staff, I made two speeches in Parliament, we met with the PDO-OTA supporting the workers and the Local Government.

While in the same week I made it clear in a statement that SYRIZA-PS is ready to contribute to a united progressive response, which is urgent to get rid of this disastrous government as soon as possible.

SYRIZA-PS at the last Central Committee, with an overwhelming majority, decided that the only perspective is the reconstitution and unity of the progressive space, not lonely marches and entrenchment.

I insist on this choice and strive for its success, because this is the social demand.

I will not allow personal strategies and rumours to overshadow the seriousness and consistency of the party and its collective decisions, pursuing a different political project.

And I will not allow anyone to insult my political morality and dignity

The chronicle of the deletion

With a post in particularly high tones, the Chania MP directly questions the stance of the leadership in the face of scenarios circulating recently about the return of Alexis Tsipras with a new political entity, but also for broader rearrangements in the Central Left.

Specifically, Mr Polakis directly addresses Mr. Famellos, asking the question of what exactly he serves with his “inarticulateness, lack of initiative and indecisiveness”, at a time when, as he notes, there have been previous interventions by Dimitris Hatzisokratis that even speak of “suspension of operation” of SYRIZA, the creation of a new party by Alexis Tsipras and the public discussion about the party of Maria Karystianou and Mr. Famellos has not yet convened a Political Secretariat.

The entire post by Pavlos Polakis:

“SOCRATI FAMELLOS !!! After these publications ,of the uncharacteristic Hajisokratis proposing STOP(!!!) of Syriza’s operation and surrender of property on the one hand (photo 1) and the announcement of the creation of the Tsipras party, after the acceleration of the Karystianos party (photo 2) … STILL TO RECOMMEND A POLITICAL SECRETARIAT and of course a Central Commission after? WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU SERVE WITH YOUR LACK OF INITIATIVE AND INDECISION? Convene Political Secretariat IMMEDIATELY”
