Message of political stability, continuation of reforms and claiming a third self-ruling government term was sent by Notis Mitarakis from the 16th Congress of New Democracy, while praising the leadership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During his speech, the former minister argued that Greece has finally left behind the period of uncertainty and the risk of exiting the Eurozone, noting that since 2019 to date the country has recorded higher growth rates than the European average, a reduction in unemployment and a strengthening of the disposable income of its citizens.

Notis Mitarakis also stressed that the government has managed to increase spending on Health, Education and National Defence, presenting the country’s economic and fiscal performance as proof of reliability and effective governance.

Setting the political and economic framework for the next period, he said that the main national goal by 2030 should be the convergence of the incomes of Greeks with the European Union average, as well as the further reduction of public debt. As he said, these goals can only be achieved through stability, investment and strong institutions.

He made a special reference to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom he said he had worked at critical moments during his tenure at the ministries of immigration and citizen protection.

“I was on the other end of the phone with the Prime Minister at the triplex and I am proud that there was a leader with judgment, knowledge and, above all, patriotic values,” he said.

At the same time, the Chios MP stressed that New Democracy remains the dominant political force even after seven years of government, describing the political strength of the government as “an unprecedented success” for post-communist standards.

Ahead of the next elections, he called on the party’s cadres to unity and rallying, noting that “no one is left over” and that the party has to gain from strengthening its institutional and collective functioning.

Concluding his speech, Notis Mitarakis also gave the central political slogan for the next period: “Third term, self-reliance”
