A major police operation has been underway since early Thursday morning in Crete, with 200 police on the beat.
The investigations are into cases of drug traffickingand the collection of subsidies from OPEKEPE and are focused on Zoniana, Kalo Chorio in the municipality of Hersonissos, Malevizi and other areas.
According to reports, so far quantities of cocaine and cannabis have been found, as well as guns. Also, searches have been carried out in at least 20 homes in Heraklion, Zoniana and Agios Nikolaos, with the Police having made 15 arrests so far.
As cretalive.gr reports, this is a multi-level and complex police operation due to the numerous “targets” and the necessity to conduct simultaneous searches of suspects and homes for fear of leaks, escapes and destruction of artifacts.
The supervision and coordination of the operation is being carried out by the Drug Squad of the Subdirectorate for the Investigation of Crimes of Heraklion, while police officers of the Subdirectorate for the Investigation of Crimes of Heraklion, members of the Crete SWAT team, the Police Department of Crete, the Police Department of Mylopotamos, Messara and Heraklion are participating in the investigations.
According to the same information, this is a case in which the police officers of the Prosecution have been working for months with the main accused being two criminal groups – families.
The case is said to be of interest at the OPEKEPE level as well, as during the investigation it is said that “dialogues-fire” emerged from Zonianos, in view of an upcoming animal count audit declared by his wife.
