On Friday morning (5/22), Eleonora Meleti was a guest on the show “To Porino” and mentioned, among other things, Maria Karystianou and party.
The MEP of the New Democracy made it clear from the very first moment that she treats this issue with particular attention, as she cannot ignore the personal tragedy that Maria Karystianou has experienced as a mother.
Eleonora Meleti: “I am very embarrassed”
Eleonora Meleti explained that until recently she only saw Maria Karystianou through the prism of her loss due to her daughter Martha and not as a political figure.
“I get very, very embarrassed when I have to comment on Ms Karystianou, because now she is a political figure, but until now she was a woman who lost her child. Tough, respectful,” he said.
He went on to talk about the burden of such a loss and the difficulty of truly understanding such pain if one has not experienced it oneself.
Specifically, he said: “It takes understanding, which I don’t think anyone can feel the pain of a mother losing her child when she or he hasn’t experienced the same trauma.”
“Carustiano cannot be immune”
The discussion then moved to the political part and the MEP stressed that since Maria Karystianou has an active political presence, it is inevitable that she will be subject to political criticism.
“On the other hand, we can no longer hide behind this and be in the clear, not to comment on her politically, especially when she is moving forward with the steps she is taking,” said Eleonora Meleti.
At the same time, she also referred to Maria Karystianou’s previous public statements, hinting at a change of attitude in relation to the establishment of a political entity and claiming power.
“Ms Karystianou had said at some point that she is not interested in forming a party. She did party. She had said she wanted to take on the powers that be. Yesterday she asked for power, she wants to become a first party. When you are a political leader and you say one thing and do another, you do not start well,” she said.
The Eleonora Meleti concluded her statement in a more sarcastic style, commenting on persons who could possibly be in Maria Karystianou’s new political venture.
“Among the persons that I think she will present next might be Yuri Geller in because logically she needs a man to pull rabbits out of hats to be able to do all the things she has in mind,” she concluded.
