The Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidaki, visited the Centre for Friendship for the Elderly in Haidari and reported on the progress of the prevention and home care programmes implemented through the Ministry of Health and the EODY.

As he said, “The health services must reach every home unhindered and free of charge, without exclusion, especially to the elderly and people with disabilities.”

According to the data he presented, from the program’s inception through April 2026, the Health Consumer Groups of the EHRC have screened more than 41.000 people across the country, while approximately 10,000 people have received home health care services.

More than 6 million people have received free screenings through the “PRELAMBANO” program, while more than 200.000 citizens were diagnosed early through the national prevention programme.

Free health services and home care

Agapidaki stressed that the aim is to make access to health services barrier-free, especially for people who find it difficult to move.

“Citizens should know that they have a free health service available to them, throughout the country, where the doctor comes to their door,” she said.

He noted that the Mobile Health Teams are now “a key pillar of the national strategy for prevention and Primary Health Care”.
