The need to ease tensions in the Middle East and to open the Hormuz Strait immediately, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed while communicating with Donald Trump and Gulf countries.
Specifically,Emmanuel Macron talked today with Donald Trump and with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan on the war in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz, at a time when US consultations with Iran are intensifying, sources close to him told the Agence France-Presse.
“The France is pushing for the diplomatic route and a negotiated solution, with the number one priority being the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, fully and without tolls, the conclusion of a ceasefire and the resumption, then, of negotiations on the other aspects (nuclear, ballistic and regional),” a diplomatic source clarified.
Tehran and Washington today spoke of “progress in their negotiations” after weeks of tensions and diplomatic consultations, but remained cautious about the chances of ending the war. A deal is “getting closer”, the US president said, putting the chances of a “good” agreement or a resumption of the war at “50-50”, in remarks to US media.
Diplomatic contacts have multiplied in recent hours with the aim of getting a result in the negotiations and avoiding a resumption of war.Qatar’s emir Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al-Thani discussed with Trump by phone and called for “priority to be given to peaceful solutions”, according to his office.
