The Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, has accepted resignation submitted by the Secretary General for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, Efthimios Bakoyannis.
Here is the text of the letter of resignation of Mr Bakoyannis:
“Dear Mr. Minister,
To. Stavros Papastavrou
7 June 2026
With this letter I wish to submit my resignation from the position of Secretary General for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Energy for personal reasonsand since an important cycle of my long term of office has come to an end, I am now able to return to my academic duties.I will continue to serve the public interest in every way possible, in the belief that the challenges facing spatial planning require constant self-criticism, transparency and accountability.
I am at your disposal for any process required to ensure a smoother transition of the new Secretary General’s assumption of office, as well as to ensure continuity in the work and responsibilities of the General Secretariat.
I would like to express my thanks to the Prime Minister and the political leadership of the Ministry for their support and the opportunity to serve the Planning and Urban Affairs, my office colleagues for their dedication, professionalism and belief that we can serve the public interest with professionalism and efficiency, the staff of the Ministry and all the departments for their contribution and cooperation in the implementation of the objectives and projects that we had undertaken.
