April 30 has been designated as World Day of Jazz and municipality of Chalandri will honour it by organising for the first time in Greece the International Jazz Day Festival Chalandri, from 25 to 30 April.
Greece is among the 190+ countries that participate in this celebration every year, spreading jazz throughout the city, with the participation of 15 bands and 39 soloists, in concerts and jam sessions that will take place in 12 different venues, both public and in bars in the city, as well as in METRO stations.
All events will be free to the public and will culminate on Thursday 30 April, on the day of World Day, with three concerts in the central square of Halandri.
The Festival will be accompanied by a number of great artists: Kasimmavik (Niki Kokkoli – Simos Riniotis), Haris Botsis, Yannis Papadopoulos, Kostas Patsiotis Quartet, Vini Founta, Yannis Harbilas, Anna Katagi, Astrinos Karageorgakis, Ioanna Karageorgakis, Nikolas Anadolis, The Seeds (Michalis & Christos Kalkanis), Haig Yazdjian, Vangelis Karipis, Harris Lambrakis Quartet, K. Mitropoulos Gypsy Jazz Trio, Giotis Kiourtsoglou Trio, M. Katahanas – A. Dandoulakis, Nasia Gofa, Stefanos Kozanis, Spyros Manesis Trio and Human Touch.
The initiative of the municipality of Halandri, co-organized with Mousegetes – Culture AMKE and with the support of STASY, is an essential local contribution to the global network of actions that are developed every year on the occasion of the World Jazz Day. The International Jazz Day Festival Chalandri is registered on the official platform jazzday.com, offering international visibility and access to a wide and discerning audience.
The International Jazz Day is an international initiative, celebrated annually on 30 April, under the auspices of UNESCO, with Herbie Hancock as artistic director and ambassador. 2026 marks the 15th anniversary of its inception (2011), and this year’s global event is being hosted in Chicago, a historic cradle of jazz.
“We have the pleasure of participating, as Halandri, in a global celebration of jazz, a celebration that promotes creativity, freedom of independent expression, intercultural dialogue, the power of music as a means of communication and cultural exchange,” Deputy Mayor of Culture Christina Mahaira said of the festival, adding: “From 25 to 30 April, our city moves to the rhythm of music, which unites and breaks down borders.
