At least eight people have been killed and more than 40 wounded in the past 24 hours in Russian strikes in Ukraine, authorities said today.

“Unable to achieve its objectives on the battlefield, Russia is stepping up its acts of terror against civilians,” said Ukrainian diplomatic chief Adriy Sibiha, calling for “intensified pressure” on Moscow.

After more than four years since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, shelling continues almost daily on both sides of the front and diplomatic negotiations have reached a stalemate.

In Chuhuiv, in the Kharkov region, a Russian strike claimed the lives of a 22-year-old pregnant woman and two men, aged 56 and 70, according to a newest account posted on Telegram by the regional governor Olekh Sinekhubov. According to the same source, in the city of Kharkiv itself, Ukraine’s second-largest near the border with Russia, the strikes wounded at least 15 people.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 166 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and two missiles overnight, of which 146 drones were intercepted.

The emergency response agency also revised upward the toll of a Russian strike yesterday in Zaporizhzhya, southern Ukraine, to two dead and 32 wounded.

One man was also killed in the Sumi (north) district, another in the Nikopol (south) district and a third in that of Hershon (south) during yesterday.
