At the meeting of the Political Committee of the New Democracy, the only item on the agenda was the election of Konstantinos Kyranakis to the post of Secretary, was addressed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“Wind of victory, we are ready to fight another victorious battle for the Southwest. I congratulate the 112 newly elected members of the Political Committee, half of whom are under 40 years of age, and congratulate our most experienced officers. A renewal rate of 75% in the Political Committee guarantees the future of the party and confirms in practice that ND can renew itself and attract new cadres. It represents every period of our history and expresses every current that has shaped it through time,” the prime minister said at the beginning of his speech.
“New Democracy never loses its soul or its pace. It demonstrates patriotic character, not from the safety of the couch,” the prime minister said meaningfully.
“An executive with a long career in the party, Constantine Kyranakis, to step on the gas by mobilizing the party apparatus. Not a short sprint awaits you, but a demanding marathon to the 2027 elections, we are in the home stretch. Every day counts, we’re going to turn the whole country around again, from one end to the other. Personally, I’ll be starting in Rhodes this coming Saturday. I ask you to step on the gas for victory, ensuring the cohesion and expansion of the party. Winning old friends with respect and understanding, but also winning new ones,” the prime minister stressed.
As Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, “the main goal of the government is to support society through reforms and measures that strengthen the economy and improve the everyday life of citizens.”
The prime minister made a special reference to the reduction of taxes, noting that “it is a central government option“, while stressing that the effort is focused on creating the conditions for a better future “for all Greeks“.
“We have laid the groundwork for continuity during the last 7 years of holding the helm of the country. The first task was to rebuild the country that was on the verge of bankruptcy. At the same time, the revolution of gov.gr was being launched to revitalize a paralyzed state. It simplified the relationship between citizens and the state, saving hours for the Greek citizen. The state can be changed as long as we want it. All this through immigrant invasions, pandemic , war in Ukraine, global inflation spike. Any other government would find excuses, but we made difficulties, opportunities,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted.
“We reduced or abolished 83 taxes. In Health we renovated over 80 hospitals and 156 health centres. I imagine you’re tired of seeing Georgiades cutting ribbons. And also millions of citizens have access to free screenings. Over 2,000 schools are being rebuilt. We said it, we’re doing it. Our work is not over, it is ongoing. We must not let memory get the better of us, the prime minister said.
“Yesterday’s and today’s successes guarantee tomorrow’s success. And unfortunately, most of them we voted for ourselves. By establishing the Emigrant Vote, our countrymen will be able to vote absentee in this election. What other force could and would implement the landmark reform for non-state universities in our country. What other force could make the limitation of tax evasion through an electronic transaction framework that gave significant fiscal breathing room. What other government could put the EFKA in order and what other force could put into practice the digital work card that protects workers,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“This government is currently implementing the largest programme to strengthen the armed forces. New Rafale, f-16s, Kimon frigate already sailing in the Aegean. We are modernizing weapons systems in the land army. Beautiful picture with the first female volunteers in the army. We have upgraded the pay, we are producing our own drones and our borders are constantly being fortified. The fence on the Evros was our commitment and we made it happen. Greece is leading the way in promoting a common European Defence with European resources for the security of Europe. <We extended our territorial waters to 12 miles in the Ionian Sea and established marine parks in our own zones. After 40 years our country is exploiting its marine resources with the stamp of global energy giants. Something that offers tremendous value of recognition of national rights and the geopolitical role of our country. Some people from the comfort of their couch forget that we keep these calm waters free and blue,” Kyriakos Mistotakis stressed.
“International inflation is gnawing away at incomes. Despite the progress in our state, islands of old-partyism still remain. The mounds we have raised are not insignificant. The cumulative increase in incomes measured by accuracy is significant. The only country that has returned a rent or two back by relieving renters. Over 20,000 of our fellow citizens have found housing through the My House programs. From the 2025 budget allocation we are able to provide extra support of €150 to families with children. We are at the limits of our fiscal capacity. But to make the contrast between a country that produces surpluses and can support society with the majority of European countries that are in excessive deficit and are forced to raise taxes the citizen’s pocket and the household’s budget are becoming a top priority. Macroeconomic progress must be translated into growth for households,” the prime minister said.
“This fast growth and income support must be our central goal for a third term,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
“On the occasion of PASOK’s stance on the Constitutional Review, the accounting of a party that seems to agree with us on most of the articles to be revised, but will vote “no” citing the need for an increased majority in the next Parliament is highlighted. You can all draw your own conclusions about how we will get to the next election,” the prime minister stressed.
“Comic Babel, in Parliament the opposition is the independent MPs. Although we speak in different languages, they can only agree on one slogan: to bring down ND and Mitsotakis. We will not indulge them. Counterfeiters of hope and tomb raiders of anger will become one to join those who sell religion by the measure and patriotism by the pound. The troupe is not out to rule, but to exhaust Greece. It knows that doubt is harder to spread than trust. The opposition describes a Greece of misery and poverty. It reminds me of what the opposition did in 2023 and Greeks gave a deafening response by looking to the future, not the past,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
“The Sunday of the great election will be one and this only Sunday must bring self-reliance,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis concluded to applause.
