Tsipras’ Party IX or EL.A.S. with the… seal of approval, since he himself decides on the secretary of the Political Committee and its members.

Yesterday it was announced that Miltos Hatzigiannakis is taking over as secretary of the Political Committee to be established with members appointed by Alexis Tsipras. The same will happen with the so-called National Council he is planning.

And while the former MP may be a likable and low-key figure, nevertheless, the way his appointment was announced confirms everything those who argue that Alexis Tsipras created a party of his own to make the decisions he wants without facing opposition or internal party strife.

How democratic is this, and to what extent does it bother the members or those jumping ship from SYRIZA to join their former leader’s new ship? Logically, not at all. After all, the members who are joining are former members of SYRIZA, as are the… self-organized core groups, but as it turns out, they have no say in the decisions of the party they support.

Of course, the comrades are used to such behavior. We must not forget that Congress where Alexis Tsipras made the comrades vote again because he didn’t like the decision they had supported. Fortunately, he didn’t have to do it a third time, since SYRIZA members understood what they needed to do by the second vote.

It seems, however, that the positions will be filled through… appointments. Perhaps this will also happen with the party’s electoral lists, but this mainly concerns SYRIZA MPs who are preparing to resign in order to join… members of ELAS and may end up embodying the phrase “a simple soldier of the party.”
