In the New Democracy, following the election of Kyranakis, preparations for the of 2027, announcing new candidacies and gradually finalizing the candidate lists nationwide
The New Democracy is stepping up its pre-election preparations, despite the fact that the next national elections are expected in 2027. A few hours after the election of Konstantinos Kyranakis as party secretary, Piraeus announced three more candidates, while planning continues for the composition of the party’s electoral lists across the country.
Non-parliamentary ministers first on the New Democracy candidate lists
The party leadership’s goal is to prioritize finalizing the candidacies of non-parliamentary ministers and deputy ministers, as well as MPs from the National List, former MEPs, as well as officials from the Maximos Mansion and Piraeus.
In this context, it was announced that the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, will be a candidate in Trikala, the Deputy Minister of Education, Nikos Papaioannou, in A’ Thessaloniki and New Democracy spokesperson Alexandra Sdoukou in Athens A.
Thessaloniki A – Names under consideration
According to reports, the possibility of running in Thessaloniki A is also being considered by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos. In contrast, the Member of Parliament for the State Nefeli Hatzioannidou, who resides in Thessaloniki, does not appear at this stage to be entering the race.
National Assembly member Giorgos Stamatis is heading to Corinth, following the loss of Nikos Tagaras, while fellow Member of Parliament for the State Ioanna Lytrivi is strongly rumored to be heading to Western Attica.
Athens A – The new additions
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, Omiros Tsapalos, although he had been mentioned for Corinth, is expected to run again in Athens A.
The candidacy of former MEP Stelios Kympouropoulos is also being discussed in the same electoral district. Although his name had been linked to the Southern Athens Sector, reports suggest he is ultimately heading toward Athens A.
Meanwhile, the New Democracy spokesperson for regional media Elena Sokou is expected to run in Evros.
Piraeus is ramping up its election campaign
Earlier this year, the candidacies of the coordinator of the Prime Minister’s office in Thessaloniki Yiannis Papageorgiou in Thessaloniki A’ Thessaloniki, the candidacy of the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistokleous, in Eastern Attica, the former Secretary General of Research, Tassos Gaitanis, in the Southern Sector, the former Secretary of Public Property Athanasios Tsoukas in Thessaloniki A, the former Secretary of Migration Policy Manos Logothetis in Samos and the former secretary for Asylum Seeker Reception, Dimitris Glymis, in Fokida.
Piraeus has already fully activated its election machinery, with continuous campaign tours throughout the country. It kicks off on Saturday in Rhodes with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while at the same time top party officials are moving forward with planning and finalizing the candidate lists ahead of the 2027 election.
