The assessment that Alexis Tsipras “squandered a great deal of trust” was expressed by the lyricist Nikos Moraitis, speaking on the show Direct with Giorgos Evgenidis.

He revealed that he does not intend to meet with the former prime minister if he returns to political life. “I love him, but I won’t go,” he said characteristically.

Speaking about his acquaintance with Alexis Tsipras, he revealed that he met the former prime minister after his electoral defeat in 2019. “I’m glad I met him in defeat and not in victory. I’m all for defeat,” he said.

Nikos Moraitis criticized the choices made by the leadership of SYRIZA leadership before the 2019 elections, saying that he advised Alexis Tsipras to pursue a more aggressive strategy. “The one who wins is the one who uses ‘you’ and ‘your.’ If the opponent is ahead, you go with hard rock,” he said characteristically. He clarified, however, that he never wrote speeches for Alexis Tsipras, noting nonetheless that he had collaborated with Stefanos Kasselakis. He was particularly critical of Mr. Kasselakis, saying that “it was a tragic mistake; the only thing that consoles me is that it was a mistake made by many people”.

Regarding current political developments, he argued that Alexis Tsipras is now expressing positions he should have articulated earlier. “Now Tsipras is saying what he should have said in the past,” he said.
