Whether you like Kyriakos Mitsotakis or not, after yesterday’s interview with Nikos Hatzinikolaou, I think everyone can agree on one thing: today there does not seem to be any other political force or figure who can govern the country the day after the elections.

Calm, level-headed, knowledgeable about the issues, and with a clear plan, the Prime Minister projected the image of a politician who knows exactly where the country stands and where he wants to lead it. Above all, however, he conveyed what citizens are seeking in a time of international uncertainty: stability.

At the same time, a segment of public opinion is showing interest in new parties and new political formations. This is entirely legitimate. However, to date we have not seen any serious and costed program for governance. We hear slogans, general declarations, and easy promises, but when it comes time for numbers and implementation, the answers are usually missing.

It is not uncommon for opposition leaders to appear on television panels, present proposals and, when asked how they will be implemented and what the cost will be, fail to provide specific answers. They are more reminiscent of mood: I’ll take a shot in the dark and see what happens, rather than political seriousness.

But the country needs seriousness, as well as a plan and stability. And today, the comparison leads many citizens to a clear conclusion: self-reliance remains the safest choice for the future.
