Nikos Avramidis, city councilor of Athens with the “Athens Up” led by Kostas Bakogiannis, questioned the advisability of the loan of 75 million euros by the Municipality of Athens, arguing that no studies, plans or a list of the 30 schools to be funded.
Speaking on the program “HERE”* with Stamatis Zacharos, Avramidis stated that the municipal faction formally requested the city council to be informed about exactly where the funds from the loan, without, as he said, receiving clear answers.
Avramidis attacks Doukas: We haven’t seen any studies or a list of schools
“We haven’t seen any studies, nor have we seen any plans; we don’t even have the list of the 30 schools for which this money will be spent. We formally requested it yesterday at the city council meeting, asking them to tell us exactly where it will go,” he stated emphatically.
According to him, the response the faction received was that preliminary studies would be prepared, with Stamatis Zacharos sarcastically remarking that this could take even many years. “So, let Haris Doukas answer us: why did he take out this loan?” the city councilor asked.
Responding to a question about whether the funds could be used for purposes other than those announced for the schools, Avramidis argued that this is feasible, since—as he said—the scope of the loan generally concerns energy interventions.
“The answer is that we can deal with anything related to energy. Photovoltaics, the construction of a new building, a new garbage truck, are energy-related. This whole story about schools is a pretext,” argued the city councilor.
