Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in Rhodes today, holding a series of meetings and making announcements focused on the Dodecanese, health, infrastructure, and tourism.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, and the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, while the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, has been on the island for the past few days. Also present are the Regional Governor of the South Aegean, George Hatzimarkos, as well as Dodecanese MPs Yiannis Pappas, Manos Konsolas, Mika Iatridi, and Vasilis Ypsilantis.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “Green light” for the Old Hospital of Rhodes
During the visit, the Prime Minister gave the “green light” for the redevelopment of the Old <a href="https://tomanifesto.gr/Hospital in Rhodes. This is a project that has been pending for years and has sparked intense debate in the local community.
At the same time, he announced the creation of a new Hospital in Kos, a move that changes the landscape of healthcare infrastructure on the islands and comes at a time when residents are demanding stronger public health services and fewer government promises without a timeline.
Of particular significance was the public support expressed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Adonis Georgiadis for the Regional Governor of the South Aegean, George Hatzimarkos. The government committed to supporting the immediate advancement of the plan to repurpose the Old Hospital, seeking to demonstrate that these projects will not remain on paper again.
Plan for the port and meetings with stakeholders
Next, the Prime Minister visited the port of Rhodes, where he was briefed in detail on the plan to develop and upgrade the port facilities.
In the presence of ministers, members of parliament, and the president of the Dodecanese Port Fund, Vasilis Vagianakis, the key pillars of the plan were presented, with the aim of strengthening Rhodes’ role in tourism and development.
Government officials emphasized new infrastructure, improving passenger services, and the overall image of the port, as Rhodes continues to play a major role on the country’s tourism map.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s visit to Rhodes comes at a time when the government is attempting to demonstrate that it is moving forward with projects in the regions, with the Prime Minister’s Office investing politically in initiatives for the islands and citizens’ daily lives.
The Prime Minister’s schedule continues with a meeting with tourism representatives at the offices of the South Aegean Region, and later he will meet with citizens at a central café in Rhodes.
Next, together with Lina Mendoni, he will visit the “Pervola” archaeological site in the Medieval City of Rhodes.
