The president of the Commission, Hursula von der Leyen, welcomed the ten-day ceasefire in Lebanon, announced by American president, Donald Trump earlier.
“This is a relief, as this conflict has already cost too many lives,” the Commission president said, while stressing that “now, we need not just a temporary cessation of hostilities, but a path to permanent peace.”
“Europe will continue to call for full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. And we will continue to support the Lebanese people through substantial humanitarian assistance,” she concluded in her X post.
