The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas conducted an on-site inspection on Saturday in the Municipality of Dionysos, continuing his tour of high-risk areas in Attica. The purpose of the visit was to accelerate prevention measures, as well as to strengthen operational readiness in view of the summer season and the increased risk of wildfires.

Tournas inspected the prevention measures

During the site inspection, Evangelos Tournas examined the situation in the mixed forest-urban areas, the passability of the forest road network, the existence of undeveloped plots and the adequacy of escape routes and operational access for firefighting forces.

The minister also visited the Ekali 2000 Volunteer Forest Firefighters – Ekali 2000 Rescuers, where he met with representatives of the volunteer civil protection, acknowledging their role in preventing and combating fires.

As Evangelos Tournas noted, inspections in the mountainous areas of Attica continue systematically following the respective visits to Penteli and Hymettus, with the aim of assessing the progress of projects implemented by the State, municipalities, and citizens, through initiatives such as the Antinero program.

Call for cleanup by June 22

The minister pointed out that, despite the significant progress that has been made, there are still interventions that must be completed immediately in cooperation with the forestry services, the Fire Department and the DIKAFKA, in order to further strengthen fire protection in high-risk areas.
