Coordinated police operations were carried out yesterday, Saturday (6/13), throughout the Region Crete, as part of efforts to prevent traffic accidents and to address dangerous driving behaviors.
During the checks, police officers inspected 1,783 vehicles and 2,075 citizens, while a total of 656 violations of the Highway Code were confirmed. At the same time, 86 vehicles were impounded.
In separate checks, the authorities also recorded 9 violations, while proceeding with 16 arrests. The cases involved, as applicable, violations of laws regarding drugs, weapons, livestock theft, street vending, disturbance of the peace, and lack of health certificates in food establishments.
The main violations identified by the Traffic Police
Of the total traffic violations, most involved dangerous driving behaviors and failure to follow basic safety measures.
Specifically, the following were confirmed:
- 24 violations for failure to wear a seat belt
- 37 violations for driving under the influence of alcohol
- 44 violations for failure to wear a helmet
- 38 violations for speeding
- 11 violations involving drivers of Light Electric Personal Vehicles
- 7 violations for failure to yield the right of way
- 32 violations for improper maneuvers
- 2 violations for using a cell phone while driving
- 25 violations for driving without a valid license
- 8 violations for improper passing
- 7 violations for running a red light
- 421 other violations
