Two fires which broke out almost simultaneously shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday (June 14) in the Mazia area, in the Arfara Municipal Unit of the Municipality of Kalamata.
According to initial reports from ERTnews, the two fire outbreaks occurred in very close proximity and at almost the same time, a fact that immediately mobilized the relevant authorities.
The firefighting operation involved four vehicles from the Fire Department with ten firefighters, vehicles from the Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of Kalamata, as well as one vehicle from the Messinia OAK volunteer team.
The immediate intervention of the firefighting forces and the assistance of the other agencies resulted in the two fires being quickly contained and brought under control before theyand grow in size.
The fires burned a total of approximately 4.5 acres of low vegetation and agricultural land, without endangering homes or causing any injuries.
The causes of the two fires are being investigated by the relevant investigative unit of the Fire Department.
