The Committee on Constitutional Revision.
The proceedings begin with four articles of the constitution, which fall under the section on individual and social rights and have been included in the proposal of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy.
New Democracy proposes a revision of Article 5 of the Constitution (Free development of personality, personal freedom) or Article 5A (Right to information) or the addition of a new article, as Article 5b, to Article 14 (Freedom of the press) and Article 15 (cinema, phonography, radio, television).
New Democracy has stated that the proposed amendment aims to improve provisions where the current constitutional text does not adequatelyto today’s needs, such as the need for modern technological data and the management of the major challenges of Artificial Intelligence.
In her proposal, she specifically suggests a revision of Article 5 or 5A or a new Article 5b which would stipulate that Artificial Intelligence must serve individual freedom and the well-being of society, so as to mitigate the risks and capitalize on the benefits it offers. It also proposes a revision of Articles 14 and 15, to expand the protection of freedom of expression in modern media and remove detailed provisions that are inconsistent with the Constitution. Furthermore, it proposes protection for journalists against their employers.
The section to be discussed today in the Constitutional Revision Committee sets out, however, in practice, other issues expected to be raised by the other parties at the center of attention. That is, whether all segments of the population ultimately have social rights, or the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation, access to healthcare, and the freedom and independence of the press.
