At the Summit of the G7 in Evian, leaders are discussing the U.S.-Iran agreement, the prospects for peace in Ukraine, and the potential role of Donald Trump as a mediator.
The crisis in Middle East and developments surrounding the Washington-Tehran Memorandum of Understanding-Tehran dominate the second day of the G7 Summit in Evian, France. The leaders of the world’s seven strongest economies are discussing with U.S. President Donald Trump the details of the agreement which, according to Washington, paves the way for the end of the war between the US and Iran.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the Memorandum as a “very important peace agreement,” emphasizing that the international community is ready to contribute to its implementation and support. As he noted, the issue will be discussed in detail with the other G7 leaders.
For his part, Donald Trump appeared cautious regarding the European proposal to assist in the reopening of the , arguing that significant external assistance is not required. However, he left open the possibility of ships from allied countries participating in the operation to ensure safe navigation in the region.
Initiatives for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine
At the center of the discussions is also the war in Ukraine, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelensky revealed that he proposed a face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin to seek a solution, a proposal that was rejected by Moscow.
The U.S. president stated that he had recently held positive talks with both Zelensky and Putin, expressing his belief that there is room for mediation and a restart of peace efforts. As he said, once the crisis with Iran is resolved, Washington’s attention will shift more toward the Ukrainian front.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he discussed with Trump the possibility of a meeting with Putin in the United States, believing that in such a setting, the Russian president would find it more difficult to refuse to participate. At the same time, he warned that if Russia rejects this opportunity as well, further international pressure will be required.
The summit’s host, Emmanuel Macron, emphasized that he would seek to persuade the U.S. president to maintain support for Ukraine and to increase pressure on Russia, with the aim of creating conditions that will allow for a peace agreement to be reached.
