On the sidelines of the G7 Summit G7 a meeting took place between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy focusing on Ukraine, strengthening defense and increasing pressure on Russia.

In a particularly tense geopolitical environment, the proceedings of the G7 Summit in Evian, France highlighted the issue of Ukraine as the central focus of the discussions, with the brief but politically significant meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy drawing the attention of the international media, as the two leaders exchanged messages during a period of intense diplomatic efforts to strengthen Kyiv’s defense, energy and military support ahead of winter, and intensifying pressure on Moscow regarding the course of the war.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the G7 summit in Évian, France and had the opportunity to have a brief conversation with Donald Trump.

Shortly before that, the summit’s host, French President Emmanuel MacRoy, had welcomed the leaders.

This is the first time in many months that the two leaders have met one-on-one. Following their explosive meeting at the White House in February 2025, their subsequent meetings have been more subdued, whether at the White House or at the Vatican during Pope Francis’s funeral.

In a social media post, Zelenskyy expressed his satisfaction with the constructive discussion between the G7 leaders and Ukraine, thanking his counterparts for the time they devoted to him this morning and “for the strong proposals on how to force Russia to make peace.”

“The priorities are clear: more air defense missiles along with licenses to produce them, a winter support package, and increased pressure on Russia. It is important that the U.S. is ready to provide support in all these areas of action. It is vital that everything that was discussed be implemented. Russia must realize that its war will never be accepted. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” he wrote.
