In the trial for the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis, accusations are being leveled against a former police chief, while the parents are asking the court to transfer the proceedings.
Journalist Elena Galaris, speaking about the trial for the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis, noted that the victim’s parents are eagerly awaiting the moment when the then Piraeus police chief will be called to testify, as serious accusations have been leveled against him by witnesses.
Testimony regarding inspections that never took place
During the discussion on the Live You show on SKAI, Aris Portosalte commented that the allegations concern the possibility that “those involved in the murder were helped to escape.” For her part, Elena Galaris noted that a police witness had testified that, although there was an order to conduct checks on everyone, his colleagues had told him that the then Piraeus police chief had prohibited the inspection of specific shipments and vehicles.
At the same time, the parents of Lyggeridis are requesting that the trial be moved to a courtroom at the Court of Appeals, arguing that the current format of the proceedings does not allow for sufficient public attendance. As they point out, “we are not prisoners” and it is unacceptable to hinder access for those who wish to observe the trial.
