The enhanced Greek presence in the maritime operations of the European Union is now more tangibly reflected in Operation “Aspides”, where Greece plays an active and operationally critical role in the security of shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, through the deployment of the frigate “Psara”, which participates in missions to escort and protect merchant ships in one of the most dangerous maritime regions in the world; the Greek contribution strengthens the European maritime security framework, supports the preservation of freedom of navigation and highlights the country’s strategic role in high-intensity operations, where the protection of critical trade flows is a key priority for the stability of international transport and global trade.
The European Union’s “Asπίδες” operation, which aims to protect international shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, announced that the Greek frigate “Psara” successfully provided support to merchant ships, “ensuring that their crews and cargo reach their destination safely.”
The “Aspides” operation, the statement adds, continues to uphold “its commitment to contributing to the freedom offreedom of navigation and to strengthening maritime security in one of the most vital and dangerous maritime corridors” in the world.
