Harsh criticism from Maria Syregela directed at opposition following announcements by PASOK and Greek Left Coalition

Maria Syregela, the Member of Parliament for Western Athens representing New Democracy, spoke about bounced checks and the tactic of outbidding employed by the opposition on the television program New Democracy.”https://tomanifesto.gr/nea-dimokratia”>New Democracy, Maria Syregela, on SKAI TV’s “SIMERA” and added that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is constantly visiting regions throughout Greece and is not doing so now as part of an election campaign.

“The prime minister, because I have also served as Secretary of the New Democracy Policy Committee, has never stopped touring the country since ’23. He is everywhere in Greece, meeting with citizens. “The elections will be held in the spring of ’27,” emphasized the New Democracy MP.

Regarding the announcements by PASOK and ELAS, she stressed that they are: “Most of what the opposition promises are empty checks. They’re outbidding each other on who will give the most. In the morning, Mr. Androulakis and offers free public transportation for young people, and then Mr. Tsipras and expands the free transportation to everyone.

On Public Transportation we have the cheapest fare in all of Europe, which we lowered from 1.40 euros under the SYRIZA government to 1.20 euros. The monthly pass for unlimited rides is 27 euros. At the same time, new buses have been introduced through the Recovery Fund, because I heard that the Recovery Fund went to only a few. The buses, the improvements made at health centers and hospitals, the Green Social Fund with its social housing—did all of that go to the rich? Does the rich person take the bus in the morning and go to work? Or “House I” and “House II”? Did the rich get houses?

The opposition’s double-talk proves that things have been done. Otherwise, they would have rejected them outright. I was elected in Western Athens, and there—as well as throughout the country—people don’t want the “money trees” they were promised, which ultimately led them to the brink of ruin.”
