Pavlos Marinakis accused Alexis Tsipras of burdening middle class and low-income earners by raising taxes and keeping the ENFIA high.
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, speaking on SKAI’s “Today” program, launched a fierce attack against former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, arguing that during his time in office, significant tax burdens were imposed on the broadest segments of society.
Marinakis attacks ENFIA and income tax
Mr. Marinakis stated that Mr. Tsipras governed for 4.5 years and, as he said, instead of reducing the tax burden, he implemented measures that affected the middle class and low-income earners.
“I saw them taxing all the other tax ID numbers: those of the middle class and low-income earners,” he stated emphatically.
At the same time, he argued that the ENFIA, which had been a central point of political contention at that time, was not only not abolished but skyrocketed, placing a heavy burden on a large portion of the population.
The government spokesperson also highlighted the income tax, noting that the combined application of the 29% rate and the 100% tax prepayment had created particularly high burdens for taxpayers.
Concluding his remarks, Pavlos Marinakis argued that the government of SYRIZA government had, overall, imposed 32 taxes, attributing the increased tax burden on households and professionals to the economic policy of that time.
