“The right people do the right things.” With this quote, which can obviously be “interpreted” in many interesting ways, Stavros Kalafatis chose to begin his speech at the official dinner of the global conference of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU), held at “Dacristo,” hosted by ONNED.

The audience was truly international, filled with young political leaders from every corner of the globe, but of course, many “blue” youth were also strongly represented in the room. Speaking entirely in English, the Deputy Minister of Development and Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A managed to combine the party’s clear “ideological current” with his substantial technocratic portfolio.

The real political “highlight,” however, came after he stepped down from the podium: Kalafatis was the only one of the official guests who stayed the entire evening! For over an hour and a half, he mingled with the audience, made the rounds of all the “small talk groups,” and spoke at length with the foreign delegates, who expressed their enthusiasm for what they were seeing and learning about the city.

Promoting the government’s work, Stavros Kalafatis made no secret of his satisfaction at serving in a portfolio that directly concerns the future and young people. In fact, he noted in his remarks that the Mitsotakis government, remaining true to its program, has already accomplished a great deal and is the only political force that speaks authentically about the future, emphasizing technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, startups, and youth entrepreneurship.

She placed particular emphasis on Thessaloniki, emphasizing that it is a strategic choice of the Government to develop the city as a regional hub of innovation for all of Europe, a goal to which he is passionately committed. He proudly highlighted the city’s internationally renowned universities and research centers, the new tech companies, the talented scientists, and the young entrepreneurs who make it a city brimming with youth and creativity.

As experienced organizers meaningfully remarked after the event concluded, the Minister delivered a mini-seminar on how to transform a “dry” agenda into a passionate policy proposal for the future
