Dimitris Tsiodras argued that the majority of Socialists in the European Parliament supported the regulation on new plant varieties, with Nikolaos Farantouris disagreeing.

On the show “Today” on SKAI, the MEP from New Democracy, Dimitris Tsiodras, argued that the European Parliament approved the 431 votes in favor the regulation on new plant breeding techniques in the European Union, while disagreeing with the MEP from PASOK, Nikola Farantouri, regarding the stance of the Socialist political group.

Tsiodras—The majority of the Socialists voted in favor

Dimitris Tsiodras stated that this specific intervention concerns the plants themselves, without altering their genes, and estimated that it could lead to crops requiring less water, less fertilizer and fewer pesticides.

As he emphasized, this development is positive both for the farmer, due to the reduction in production costs, and for the consumer, as it contributes to more sustainable farming practices.

Referring to the stance of the Socialists, the MEP from New Democracy argued that their political line was in favor of the proposal. When Nikolas Farantouris objected that the majority of the group had voted against it, Mr. Tsiodras replied that of the 135 MEPs in the group, 105 voted in favor, arguing that the majority ultimately supported the measure.
