Before the Court of Justice, Stavros Balaskas is expected to be summoned, following statements he made on a television program regarding the investigation into the murder of Stavroula Leventaki.

On the sidelines of the press conference regarding the case, it became known that Mr. Balaskas will be summoned to testify regarding his claims about the police authorities’ handling of the case, referring to a “blunder” due to the release of the 43-year-old suspect after two statements, even though—as he noted—he was at the center of the investigation.

At the same time, he had claimed that the Chania Police Chief, Nikolaos Kanellos, was particularly annoyed by this development and had expressed his dissatisfaction to his subordinates.

However, according to the official statements of the police authorities, the actions taken during the investigation were the result of a specific operational plan and were carried out based on the information available to the investigators.

For this reason, Mr. Balaskas is expected to be called upon to provide explanations regarding his public statements on the case.
