Marinos Skandamis responds to Anna Diamantopoulou, rejects her claims as fake news and escalates the political confrontation with sharp remarks.

The clash between Marinos Skandamis and Anna Diamantopoulou continues, with the current Head of the Citizen Protection Sector in his party, Alexis Tsipras responding to the former minister’s statements regarding his tenure in the government of Antonis Samaras.

His response regarding his tenure

The feud began when Skandamis, announced that he would not be running for re-election as a member of parliament with PASOK, made pointed remarks about the messages being sent by the party headquarters on Harilaou Trikoupi Street, as well as Anna Diamantopoulou, regarding the possibility of post-election cooperation with New Democracy.

Responding to Parapolitika 90.1, Diamantopoulou commented that Mr. Skandamis “was secretary-general of the government when Mr. Samaras was prime minister,” adding pointedly: “Is this gentleman afraid that New Democracy will come to power? I won’t answer that—no comment.”

In a new statement, Marinos Skandamis argued that his former minister’s remarks provide him with an opportunity to set the record straight. As he noted, he served as Secretary General at the Ministry of Justice starting in 2009, during the premiership of George Papandreou, and remained in that position during the coalition government of PASOK, New Democracy and DIMAR, following a unanimous decision by PASOK when Vangelis Venizelos served as president, Nikos Androulakis served as secretary, and George Papandreou served as a member of parliament.

Criticism of “fake news” and European etiquette

Skandamis further argued that, based on the logic invoked by Diamantopoulou, it should be considered that Nikos Androulakis, in his capacity at the time, was also an “instrument of Mr. Samaras.”

At the same time, he launched a new attack against the former minister, accusing her of “losing her European tact and spreading fake news.” “Where has her cosmopolitanism gone? And why is she abandoning her Western rationalism? Let’s leave the past where it is and change the future. That is why we are moving forward with those who can change Greece, with the Greek Left Alliance at the forefront,” he stated emphatically.
