Maria Karystianou attacks those who left Hope for Democracy.
Specifically, in a post, Maria Karystianou makes extensive reference to the recent mass departures from her party. These departures are accompanied by accusations of a lack of serious political discourse, a lack of transparency, and the way the party leadership operates.
In her Facebook post, Maria Karystianou attacked those who left her party, accusing many of them of having vested interests, wanted leadership positions, and were expelling members from the party because of their ideology. She even claims that they were… blackmailing her.
Of course, she doesn’t name names in her accusations. No surprise there.
She concludes her remarks on the departures by saying that her party is thus… purging itself and moving forward stronger.
What’s most interesting is the way she talks about herself: she claims to have… great purity of soul and chooses people of light, just as she tells us she herself is.
This is more or less how she justifies herself, claiming that she didn’t realize that many of those who approached her weren’t actually all that… pure and enlightened.
In short, Maria Karistianou tells us that she holds the scepter of integrity and that the rest couldn’t measure up to her. It’s interesting because we’ve heard this talk of purity and integrity before—and from many populists, no less.
