The fire in a two-story building in the center of Kallithea has taken a tragic turn, with two seriously injured people who were rescued by firefighters from the Fire Department and another firefighter.
According to ERT, the fire has not spread to adjacent buildings, but the two-story building has been completely destroyed.
The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m., and reinforced firefighting crews and ambulances rushed to the scene to transport two people to the hospital with serious injuries. Operations are continuing at the scene with 24 firefighters, 7 vehicles, and a specialized aerial ladder truck.
According to initial reports from ERT, the two residents of the two-story building were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The wife suffered fractures after jumping from the balcony, while the husband was treated for smoke inhalation and burns.
A firefighter and a volunteer firefighter were withdrawn from the firefighting efforts due to the intense heat and heavy smoke.
