Winds across the country remain strong, as does the high risk of wildfires, while the extreme heat wave that struck western Europe over the past 24 hours and is now affecting the western and northern Balkans.

As ERTnews meteorologist Anastasia Tyraski points out, Sunday (June 28) is the day with the strongest winds, reaching 7–8 Beaufort, in a band across the Aegean Sea, stretching from the northeast to the southwest.

At the same time, the eastern mainland regions will also be affected, the Attica region, and the eastern parts of the Peloponnese and Euboea.

In the coming hours a slight weakening of the winds is expected, with 8 Beaufort winds essentially limited to the Steno Kafireas area, while on Monday there will be a slight further weakening, with the north wind reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort.

The mainland regions will now be less affected by the winds, but at the same time, temperatures will begin to rise in northern and western Greece.

Starting Monday evening, a heat wave will reach the country, with temperatures reaching 37 degrees and possibly 38 locally. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the thermometer will read 38 degrees, initially mainly in the northernmost regions, then spreading to the mainland, central, southern, and eastern mainland areas.

The heat will be accompanied by local thunderstorms, allowing Greece to avoid an extreme heatwave with temperatures in the 40s.
