The Piraeus and Accenture announce a major expansion of their long-term strategic collaboration strategy, creating a dedicated AI Hub that will leverage Anthropic technologies.
The goal is to accelerate Piraeus’ overall transformation with AI technologies and create a benchmark for AI-driven banking in Greece. The AI Hub will serve as the central mechanism for designing and deploying advanced AI solutions at scale and across the entire Piraeus value chain. The basis of this initiative is the combination of Accenture’s banking and AI expertise, including Accenture’s Center of Excellence in Data & AI in Athens, with Piraeus’ strategic AI roadmap. In this direction, the AI Hub will accelerate the redesign of banking processes in the areas of operations, customer experience, risk management and regulatory compliance, as well as the modernization of the technology infrastructure.
At the same time, the AI Hub will enhance Piraeus’ long-term AI capabilities by attracting, developing and upgrading skilled talent. This will be made possible through targeted recruitment and structured training programs, including Udacity, Accenture’s AI-native education and training platform. This approach supports the Bank’s ambition to embed AI skills and new ways of working across the organisation.
A key focus of the partnership is to develop secure, accountable and human-centric AI solutions that support autonomous decision making, simplify complex processes and enhance the experience of both customers and employees. Piraeus and Accenture, through the newly formed Accenture Anthropic Business Group, will leverage Anthropic’s AI models and platforms, as well as the latter’s commitment to the principles of ethical AI. In doing so, they will drive innovation in a responsible manner, ensuring that the advanced solutions developed are aligned with the Bank’s values and regulatory requirements.
“The AI Hub is a strategic milestone for Piraeus,” said Charis Margaritis, Group Chief Operating Officer of Piraeus. “We are moving from individual applications to a single AI engine across the organization, fully integrated into the way the Bank operates. Our partnership with Accenture, combined with the integration of Anthropic’s AI technology, allows us to deploy advanced AI solutions at scale with accountability, backed by strong governance, transparency and human control. This initiative empowers our people, builds customer and regulatory confidence and creates a strong foundation for banking in Greece with an eye on the future.”
“This partnership reflects the deep and long-standing relationship of trust between Piraeus and Accenture, based on our shared vision and value creation,” said George Pallioudis, Financial Services Lead at Accenture. “This initiative confirms in practice Piraeus management’s commitment to the adoption of artificial intelligence and Accenture’s leadership role in reinventing the way businesses operate in the new digital age.”
Thomas Remy, Head of Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa at Anthropic, said: “Artificial intelligence is transforming the way banks operate and it is critical that modern AI systems meet high governance and regulatory compliance requirements. Claude has been designed with the security, reliability and transparency that highly regulated industries such as banking require.Through the collaboration with Anthropic to develop a new AI Hub for the Greek banking industry, Piraeus and Accenture reaffirm our shared commitment to the safe and responsible use of AI.”
The AI Hub builds on Piraeus’ successful collaboration with Accenture to adopt a cloud-first operating model, which has already accelerated the delivery of digital services, enhanced security and compliance, improved operational efficiency and supported the Bank’s broader sustainability and modernization goals.
