The progress being made on the Fly Over works was highlighted by State Minister of Interior (Macedonia and Thrace Sector), Kostas Gioulekas.
“We see all the Fly Over road construction sites working feverishly, a project progressing by leaps and bounds and the timetables being fully met,” he said immediately after the Thessaloniki Coordination Council meeting held at the Governorate.
“Here in Thessaloniki we have broken the ‘barriers’ and among us we are all at the same table, we discuss, we consult, we make decisions for the good of our fellow citizens, for the good of our city, for the good of all of us. We are trying, in this time remaining until the performance of the projects that are being carried out, to improve our daily life,” the Deputy Minister said.
Gioulekas appealed to citizens to make use of the free DriveThess application, which is provided on all mobile phones, through Google, 24 hours a day and before starting a route to be informed about how to reach their destination earlier.
Vassilis Kappatos, director of the Institute of Transport (IMET) of EKETA, said that this application is constantly being improved by the Institute using new algorithms Artificial Intelligence, covers 14 central road junctions in Thessaloniki and in combination with the “smart traffic lights” it was possible to reduce the traffic load by 15%.
The Deputy Minister pointed out that:
-The crane vehicles, vans and emergency intervention motorcycles that currently exist on the ring road, until the Fly Over is delivered, will remain on the ring road in order to remove immediately and in a minimum time any stalled cars due to an accident or mechanical failure.
-Traffic will not be stopped at all on the Panorama bridge with its new operating branch.
-The Municipality of Thessaloniki is addressing the issue of some garbage bins that are not properly placed in their positions.
