Support for the waiver of immunity of MEPs involved in the OPEKEPE case was expressed by the MEP of the New Democracy Sofia Voultepsi.

As she said, she will vote in favour of lifting immunity “to watch another failure of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office“, expressing clear scepticism about the way the institution operates.

She noted that the Association of Judges and Prosecutors has the right to express its views publicly, as it has itself, stressing that the criticism being made is not directed against the judiciary as a whole.

Referring to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, she said that she was surprised by certain actions, pointing out – among other things – that, Greece was the only country where the head Laura Covesi held a press conference.
