The strengthening of the already close cooperation on the protection of the external borders of the European Union, was confirmed once again at the new meeting held by Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis with the Executive Director of Frontex, Hans Leijtens, in the presence of the Secretary General of Public Order, Panagiotis Stathis and the Chief of the National Police, Panagiotis Stathis.AS, Lieutenant General Dimitriou Malliou .

During the meeting, the strengthening of the Agency in view of its reconstitution was on the agenda, with the exchange of know-how and practices for a better management of migration flows, as well as the provision of means and human resources support.

Also, the need to develop joint operational actions to further manage migratory flows and prevent the entry of irregular migrants, always respecting fundamental individual rights, while focusing on the protection of external borders, was underlined by both sides.

In addition, as confirmed, one of the key priorities is to promote good cooperation and strategy, which already exists between the missions of Member States participating in the operational teams of the Agency and supporting operational actions at the external borders. At the same time, it was noted that it is of great importance to coordinate with the leaderships of third countries in order to have an effective policy on the migration issue.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the General Directorate of Border Management and Migration, Brigadier General Zambia Gyparis, the Director of the Border Protection Directorate, Police Director Andreas Karageorghi, Director of Border Protection, Senior Officials of Frontex, as well as the Head of the Greece Section of the Commission’s Directorate General for Home Affairs and Migration, Aristides Psaras.
