The outline of the new support measures expected to be announced by the prime minister at noon was given by the government spokesman, Paulos Marinakis.

The announcements, he said in a statement to SKAI, are part of the government’s strategy for permanent interventions with a social footprint.

As he stressed, the government’s central direction, as reflected in the Thanksgiving International Fair and started to be implemented in January, gives emphasis on supporting the middle class and families with children. The new measures to be announced, which will have a double character: on the one hand, permanent interventions and on the other hand, exceptional support to cope with the current economic pressures

He left open the possibility of further interventions in September, if conditions allow. “We will essentially have the follow-up, for good reason.”

However, he said, no package of measures can solve the problems of citizens as a whole. “There will be several measures, but I will never say that these measures will solve the problem to the citizen,” he said. He focused on the importance of boosting incomes, noting that “to return to the people you have to have more income.” He reminded at this point that the government has managed, despite cutting taxes, to increase public revenues, creating fiscal space for support interventions.

At the same time, he announced the continuation of tax relief with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
