Two trains collided today in Denmark.

The a total of 17 people were injured, with four people in critical condition, Ritzau news agency reported, citing health services.

The two trains collided this morning between Hilerrod and Kagerup, about 40 kilometers north of Copenhagen, police and emergency services said. “There has been a serious rail accident. Two trains collided and police and emergency services are on the scene,” local police said in a statement.

“We received the alert at exactly 6:30 am,” Tim Simmonssen, a spokesman for the emergency services, told AFP. “All passengers have been evacuated from the train and therefore no one is trapped,” he added.

The injured were taken to hospital by ambulances and helicopters, the fire service said in X.

Rail accidents are rare in Denmark, but in 2019, a passenger train collision resulted in eight deaths and 16 injuries.

In August 2025, one person was killed after a train collided with a farm vehicle.

Public broadcaster DR broadcast footage of two yellow and grey trains, both with visible damage to their front ends, stalled in a wooded area.
