Strong political debate over OPECEP, with accusations of “vilification”, insults and subjects between the government and PASOK.

In a particularly tense political climate the confrontation between the government and the axiomatic opposition is evolving, on the occasion of statements on the management of cases related to the OPEKEPE and reports of diling with the Maximou Mansion. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis launched a fierce attack on Nikos Androulakis, accusing him of “abject logic” and abusive language which he claims is connected to the polling pressure facing PASOK. The confrontation demonstrates the deep political tension between the two sides, with accusations of institutional behaviour, interpretations of parliamentary procedures and mutual accusations of facilitating judicial developments and political impressions.

Attack on PASOK President Nikos Androulakis for his statement in Parliament that the inclusion of the controlled deputies for the OPEKEPE on the ND ballots is an insult to Justice, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said in a statement issued.

He must never forget his institutional role

Marinakis speaks of Androulakis’ insults and notes that no matter how much the PASOK president is pressured by his low poll performance and internal party pressures, he must never forget his institutional role, especially when addressing the national delegation.

As the government spokesman says, in the current parliamentary term alone, immunity has been lifted for 7 PASOK MPs. “If we adopt the wretched logic of Mr. Androulakis, then we must conclude that the participation of these 7 MPs in the PASOK ballot papers in the next elections will be the result of “delirium”,” he notes.

In detail, the statement of Mr:

“It is regrettable that we are forced to return for the umpteenth time to something obvious, but today’s speech, the insults and the style of Mr. Androulakis in the Parliament, leave no more room.

The leader of the opposition called the obvious answer I gave about the participation of New Democracy MPs, for whom immunity was lifted, in the party’s electoral lists a “deflation of Maximou”.

I am stating the following, not because I believe that the PASOK president will take back what he unacceptably said, but so that people know the reality:

First, from a simple reading of the transcript of the briefing of the political editors, it is clear that I received a question about whether anything changes in terms of the participation of these MPs after the process of lifting their immunity, and I answered as a matter of course that “there is no question as to their participation in the ballots”.

Second, only during the current parliamentary term, the immunity of 7 PASOK MPs has been lifted. If we adopt Androulakis’ abject logic, then we must conclude that the participation of these 7 MPs on the PASOK ballots in the next elections will be the result of “de-election”;

Thirdly, on every occasion, all government officials, with the Prime Minister leading the way, have stressed how important it is to clear the cases quickly. This in itself reveals that for the Government and the ruling majority it is important that the judiciary is subjected to a first instance trial before the 2027 national elections are held.

No matter how much pressure Mr Androulakis is put under by his poor poll performance and internal party pressures, he must never forget his institutional role, especially when addressing the national delegation.”
