Accusations of public money misappropriation

Georgiadis announced legal action against Kyriakos Velopoulos after a video in which he said there were allegations of public money misappropriation and his name being implicated in investigations by the European Public Prosecutor. “This is not politics,” he said, calling on the Hellenic Solution president to prove his allegations before the judiciary.

In a later post, the minister expressed his displeasure with Mr. Velopoulos, noting that in the past he had considered him a friend.

Boundaries

Speaking at the 11th Delphi Economic Forum, Mr. Georgiades stressed that he accepts political criticism, but set clear boundaries against what he said were “smears and slander” that hurt his moral standing.

Reacting to criticisms of the management of Recovery Fund resources, the minister described as “unfair and foolish” the view that the funds should have been directed to recruitment of staff instead of infrastructure renovations, noting that these funds cannot be used for salaries.

At the same time, he dismissed accusations of allocating billions of euros to individuals through vouchers, calling it “unthinkable nonsense.” He said the amount allocated for vouchers to private clinics is 9 million euros, while the 2 billion euros accounted for almost all of the Recovery Fund for the Health Ministry.
