Germany is moving forward with the development of Germany Ships of the Navy in the Middle East, as part of planning for a possible mission to the Hormuz Strait with this information being disclosed by Defence Secretary Boris Pistorius.
According to what he said in an interview with the Rheinische Post, a narcade ship and a command and supply ship are planned. He did not give a specific timetable for the departure.
Boris Pistorius stressed that a stable ceasefire, a legal basis under international law and approval from the Bundestag were required for the deployment to proceed.
He made special reference to the country’s capabilities in narcotics, noting that Germany has been a longstanding leader in this field within NATO.
For his part, Chancellor Friedrich Murch has said that Berlin is ready to participate in a multi-national mission to secure the Hormuz Strait, ideally with the assistance of the United States.
He stressed that the country’s contribution would focus on protecting freedom of navigation, through naval operations and marine surveillance in the wider region.
